Sign-out from the night team

The night residents and attending hand over every patient in the department: who is sick, what is pending, what is still undecided.

You pick up your first patients from the night team and hear how the attending thinks through each one.

You pick up patients from the night team and start owning the plan for each one.

You take sign-out for the whole board and decide who goes where.

Morning rounding

The team walks the department together, patient by patient, at the bedside.

Seeing patients

Differentials and plans

New patients arrive. You take the history, examine, build the differential and write the treatment plan. Fracture reductions, lacerations and workups fill the morning.

A patient needs an airway. There is no competing residency in this department, so the EM resident takes it.
